2006 Cabernet Sauvignon

The long, cool growing season in 2006 produced a Charnu Cabernet Sauvignon that is slightly less "flashy" than more typical vintages. On the other hand, it has great balance and a long finish.

This is a vintage that will develop slowly and last 10-15 years.

91Cellar Selection. Dry, dramatic and rich, a Cabernet whose authoritative tannins mark it as classic Napa Valley. Beyond that are ripe blackberry and cassis flavors that are liberally oaked. Needs some time to come around, although you could drink it now with a good decant. But better 2013–2018.

92Juicy and bright with black-raspberry and blueberry fruit; nicely structured and ripe with lovely, elegant flavors of soft oak and spice; long and rich.

Winemaker Tasting Notes

Many of the themes of the 2005 Charnu Cabernet Sauvignon are continued in the 2006 vintage. Hints of mocha and hazelnut accent the dark red fruits in the nose. Flavors of tobacco leaf, bramble fruits and compote combine to form a sweet core of the wine, while earthier notes of wet stone, sassafras and dust provide textural elements. The palate is seamless and suave with a dense entry and flowing middle. The wine culminates with precise tannins and a gradual, long finish. This wine will benefit from decanting at release, and will respond well to aging.
